Roseville High Seniors Graduate Day After Fellow Students Torched Stage
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Roseville High School seniors graduated on Friday without two of their classmates who are accused of nearly derailing the ceremony by setting the stage on fire.
Roseville Police say Roy Loya, 18, and a 17-year-old student are responsible for setting the fire that destroyed the graduation stage and damaged the field on Thursday.
Seniors didn't let that fire stand in the way of their special night on Friday as the ceremony continued as usual.
"I was really disappointed this is a brand new field, just got put in last year and it's already destroyed," said Anthony Camacho.
Students say it's difficult to digest the news.
"I was pretty shocked, I didn't think one of our students would actually do something like that," said Myrissa Orneles.
Parents agree, saying they would never have expected something like this from a student here.
The turf is estimated to be worth $1 million. The school may have to replace the entire field. The school was able to make arrangements for a new stage on Friday and the show went on.
Loya remains in jail on $150,000 bond and will likely face a judge next week.
