"Roar" At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom To Close

VALLEJO (CBS13) – An iconic roller coaster at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is "roaring" for the last time next month.

The wooden roller coaster known as "Roar" is set to close permanently on Sunday, August 16 – which happens to be National Roller Coaster Day.

Six Flags announced the impending closure Thursday.

The 55 mph ride was named for the thunderous roar of a California sea lion. It opened back on May 14, 1999.

Die-hard fans of "Roar" can still visit the original roller coaster at Six Flags America in Maryland.

Officials have not announced any plans for an attraction to replace the coaster.
