Elementary school accused of having "political message" in mural
In Ripon, how did a school mural cause controversy? The artist claims she was asked to promote education; however, some say the artwork carried a political undertone.

Before the return of class, Ripona Elementary School finds itself in the hot seat. Does its newly painted mural carry a political undertone or is it being misconstrued as something it's not?
Some in the community took exception to this mural.
Ripona Elementary School reportedly wanted it to promote STEAM classes. But some believed the rainbow appeared to represent the pride flag, a symbol closely associated with LGBTQ rights.
Ripon Unified School District says it was made aware of concerns about a perceived political message. It tells CBS13 the mural did not follow its guidelines, which list content to avoid like advertising, outside logos, and political messages.
The district also went on to say that, while it does not believe the artist meant any harm, the artist did adjust it. The district hopes the outcome will be beautiful and inspiring for students.
