Retiring San Jose Police Chief Takes Top Job With Tracy Police Department

TRACY (CBS13) — The current police chief of San Jose has accepted the top job with the Tracy Police Department.

Larry Esquivel, 53, has spent more than 30 years with the San Jose Police Department, most recently as its chief.

Esquivel had announced his retirement from the police department in July, but has been also searching for a new job. Esquivel was in contention for the police chief role with the Tuscon Police Department in Arizona, but withdrew his name on Tuesday, presumably to take the job in Tracy.

He will replace Gary Hampton, who announced his retirement in April.
