Reports: 'Eight Is Enough' Dad Dick Van Patten Dies At Age 86

Actor Dick Van Patten has died, according to reports.

The actor perhaps best known for his role as Tom Bradford on the '70s sitcom "Eight Is Enough" died at age 86 from complications from diabetes, Yahoo! reports.

Van Patten started working in TV near the very start of the medium, co-starring in "I Remember Mama", one of the first TV hits from 1949 to 1957.

Van Patten popped up all in various supporting roles in the 1960s and 1970s on TV dramas and comedies, in shows such as "Naked City", "Adam-12", "The Streets of San Francisco", and Happy Days.

"Eight Is Enough", which ran from 1977-81, and was set in Sacramento, secured Van Patten a stardom that carried through to the rest of his career.
