Nevada City School Closed After Student Diagnosed With Measles

NEVADA CITY (CBS13) – A school in Nevada City is closed on Tuesday after a student came to school infected with measles.

YubaNet.com first reported the Nevada County Public Health Department sent a letter to parents at Yuba River Charter School that stated a child at the school was diagnosed with measles.

According to a release from the Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency, the student came to school on March 17 infected with the measles.

The student was unvaccinated, officials say.

Health officials note that Nevada County has some of the highest rates of unvaccinated students in California.

A call into the school's main number leads to a recorded messages stating there will be no school and afterschool programs on Tuesday.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads easily by air and by direct contact.
