AMADOR COUNTY (CBS13) — A driver who was rear-ended by a California Highway Patrol officer attempting to make a traffic stop on another car has died from her injuries.
The crash happened in Amador County on March 28. Just before 11 p.m., the officer was traveling westbound on State Route 16 when he saw a car approaching from the other direction at a high rate of speed. The officer prepared to turn to go after that car when the CHP says she hit a Toyota Camry in front of her.
The car she struck was pushed into the eastbound lane where it struck a Toyota Matrix driving from the opposite direction.
The driver, a 64-year-old woman, died at the scene of the crash. The officer and the Matrix driver, a 69-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries.
It's unclear how the officer struck the car traveling in front of her, and the incident is being examined by the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
