Rep. Ami Bera Wins Re-Election Over Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Rep. Ami Bera will continue to serve the 7th Congressional District after a win over Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones.

Bera's lead expanded once again on Friday to more than 6,000 votes. He holds a 51.2 percent to 48.8 percent advantage over Jones.

Monday marked the final deadline for votes to be received by county elections officials. State law says mail-in ballots postmarked on Election Day have up to three days to arrive, however since the deadline fell on Veterans Day, it was extended until Monday.

This is Bera's third run for Congress, each ending with narrow wins in the competition 7th Congressional District in Sacramento County. His 2014 win in a election year with a record-low voter turnout was less than 1,500 votes.

Bera issued a statement thanking volunteers and voters and stressed after a divisive election, it's time for the country to come together.
