Renters Living Out Of Their Vehicles As Apartment Repairs Drag On In Carmichael

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) - Renters shut out of their Carmichael apartment complex after it was closed by code enforcement are now living in their cars in their own parking lot.

The tenants were forced out of the Twin Gardens Apartments just days before thanksgiving. Many of them were complaining about not having heat and having bed bugs.

Several weeks later, they're unsure about the future.

"Nobody is helping us; we're stuck. We're sitting here stuck, we don't know what to do. We gotta just keep taking it," said apartment resident Donte Collier.

The owner of the apartment paid for the families to relocate to a hotel, but that only lasted a week.

Repair crews were out at the apartment working on the gas lines Wednesday. It's unknown when the residents will be allowed back inside.

The landlord declined our request for comment.
