Rancho Cordova Store Employee Uses CPR To Save Customer Who Collapsed

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - A man's life was saved by a stranger. He recently collapsed in a dollar store and the assistant store manager didn't hesitate to help.

Ricky Caskey is an assistant manager at the 99 Cents Only Store in Rancho Cordova and is being called a hero by medics for what he did inside this store.

Caskey came to work an hour and a half early like he normally does, but on this day he would be tasked with saving a stranger's life.

"One of my employees goes 'Rickey, Rickey, isle 10, isle 10," said Caskey.

Caskey turned to see a man in his 50s lying on the floor.

"His face is blue and purple," he said.

Caskey began CPR and kept the chest compressions going until medics arrived.

"The positive outcome that we had with this patient would not have been possible without his assistance," said Josh Katz a Metro Fire paramedic.

"To me, I felt like I was just doing my job," said Caskey.

Believe it or not this is not even the first time he has saved someone's life.

"About four years ago my brother-in-law had the same thing. We were at Sac State walking across the bridge and he had a heart attack right there," said Caskey.

Caskey is two-for-two when it comes to saving lives. He believes all of us should be trained on CPR.

"It's one thing you think you will never use in your life, but someday you may have to use it," said Caskey.

The customer who collapsed is recovering at an area hospital. He said to be doing well. Medics say the best way to give CPR is to do chest compressions to the tune of the Bee Gees' song Staying Alive.
