Rancho Cordova Giving Businesses A Boost To Improve Diversity Of City's Offerings

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) — Rancho Cordova is looking to help businesses with a plan.

Tucked behind an Internet company and a tanning bed manufacturer in a nondescript industrial park, you wouldn't expect to find this.

David Mathis opened up American River Brewing Company in 2012. He says he knew this was the right location and the right city for success.

"This is Rancho Cordova and this is where business is going to be it's the next big spot," he said.

Mathis says the city has a friendly business environment that other areas lack.

"Everyone worked with me. Everyone wanted me here," he said.

Ready to expand his tasting room, Mathis was recently chosen to be the first business to receive a loan as part of the city's new economic development plan.

When voters approved Measure H last year, they gave the city $1.8 million in tax money to ramp-up development. Heavy with industrial and office space, the search is now underway for different kinds of businesses, including restaurants and retail.

The loan has allowed American River Brewing Company to take over the space next door and will mean a much larger tasting room. Mathis says he will have no problem filling it up.

"Rancho Cordova is now going to be in the spotlight," he said.
