Rancho Cordova Compiles List Of Top 40 Offenders In Neglected Neighborhoods

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) — The city of Rancho Cordova is trying to turn around neglected neighborhoods by making a Top 40 list of the worst offenders.

There are places in the city that statistics show are the most unsafe and where just playing outside can be dangerous.

The city has compiled a Top 40 list showing which addresses have the most calls for service and code enforcement violations.

The owner of one apartment complex sits at No. 28 as a repeat code offender. The landlord lives in Los Angeles and owes $2,000 in fines.

Jacob Schmidt lives in one of the units, and says the complex's front gate is always broken.

"It allows anyone to come in, really—drug dealers, all that—they can all come in whenever they want," he said.

The complex's manager said in a statement they are working to eliminate the issues.

Currently there are $800,000 in uncollected fines in the city dating back to 2006.
