Rain in Sacramento? NWS Says High Pressure Could Be Moving East Late Next Week

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) —The first significant rain of 2015 could be coming next weekend, according to the National Weather Service office in Sacramento.

A ridge of high pressure has kept California high and dry during the month of January, but signs are pointing toward the ridge moving eastward. As the ridge moves, an atmospheric river would likely aim for the coast, possibly bringing rain to the Sacramento region.

The latest forecast model points to the possibility of rain in the region between Friday and Sunday. Since the forecast is still seven to 10 days out, it's difficult to pinpoint if and when the precipitation would fall. However, the NWS has increased the chances of rain "quite a bit."
