Rafting Gone Wild Prompts Another Alcohol Ban On River

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Parks department officials have issued a temporary ban on alcohol along the American River ahead of an event called Rafting Gone Wild.

The ban has been in place on the day of the event for a couple of years. When county officials say the even advertised on social media for this Saturday, they moved quickly.

Kent Hansen with American River Raft Rentals remembers the chaos from three years ago.

"When you get thousands of people rafting, it's a safety concern," he said. "People ended up an ambulance is from drinking too much alcohol."

Tamera Adams and her family are heading on their first rafting trip on Friday, and they're glad they missed the party. She thinks the alcohol ban is a smart move.

"Too many people make mistakes when they've been drinking and they are clearheaded and when you're around water that can be dangerous," she said.
