Purported Stockton Clown Assault Video Was Staged, Police Say

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A video that made the rounds on social media this week that purported to show a clown being assaulted by a man armed with a gun was staged, Stockton police say.

The video, which was posted on Youtube, showed a person dressed in a clown costume being pistol-whipped by a man. The clown had apparently tried to scare the man, following in the trend of reported "creepy clowns" across the nation.

Police say they were able to track down the man who portrayed the clown in the Stockton video. The man, Sadiq Mohammad, reportedly admitted to police that the whole thing was staged and the gun was fake.

It is unclear if police will investigate the video any further.
