Pregnant Woman Injured In Crash By Fleeing Suspects Near Rosemont Area

FOLSOM (CBS13) – A pregnant woman was sent to the hospital after suspected thieves caused a crash on Highway 50 near the Rosemont area, the Folsom Police Department said.

Officers responded at around 8 p.m. on Friday to a Walgreens on Riley Street after a caller said three women filled large trash bags with about $1,000 in cosmetics, the department said.

The suspects – Taylor Ross, 23, Gwendolyn Scott, 23, and Tiera Williams, 18, all of San Francisco – fled the scene and were spotted by a Folsom police officer heading Toward El Dorado Hills on Highway 50.

Police said the suspects reached speeds over 120 miles per hour during the approximately 20-mile chase. It ended when the suspects crashed into another vehicle near Watt Avenue.

So why would police pursue suspects accused of stealing cosmetics?

Folsom police say there are a variety of factors that go into deciding whether to initiate a pursuit including the seriousness of the suspected crime, traffic and road conditions.

They say at the time there wasn't a high volume of traffic and during the pursuit, they got word about a similar crime in Citrus Heights.

Police recovered over $4,000 worth of merchandise taken in the Folsom heist. They also found several thousand dollars worth of products taken from a Walgreens in Citrus Heights earlier the same day, police said.

Ross, Scott, and Williams face charges of grand theft, conspiracy, and reckless evading causing injury.

People in Folsom are just glad the suspects were caught and the expecting mother and her unborn baby are doing okay.

"When you have people coming in from the Bay Area and all that to do that to our town, it's frustrating," Loren Porter said.

"When you come into Folsom, there is a strong police presence. You are doing bad A or B we are going to come for you, we are not just going to let it slide because it's just cosmetics," said Natalie Hernandez.

Ross, Scott, and Williams face charges of grand theft, conspiracy, and reckless evading causing injury.

Authorities said the pregnant woman is fine and has since been released from the hospital. The baby was also fine.
