Pregnant Woman Dies After San Jose Crash, Baby Survives

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- An 18-year-old pregnant woman has died from injuries sustained in a crash on Highway 101 in San Jose but her baby was born.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dulce Araceli Capetillo Hernandez of San Jose died at Santa Clara Valley Regional Medical Center Wednesday after initially complaining of a leg injury. Her baby was born at the center and is in critical condition.

Hospital officials say Hernandez was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in an early-morning crash. Her injuries were considered minor at the scene but she complained of leg pain and was taken to the hospital where they found more substantial injuries.
