Police: Woman Set Fire To Ex-Girlfriend's Stockton Apartment

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Police say a woman set fire to her ex-girlfriend's Stockton apartment in a homicide attempt.

The incident happened Saturday a little after 5 a.m. Stockton Police say the woman – identified as 29-year-old Lashanda Thompson – somehow got into the 8600 block of Acapulco Way apartment and started turning on the burners on the stove.

A pot of grease left on the stove then heated up and ignited, causing the downstairs of the apartment to catch fire – trapping the three adults and a child inside.

Stockton Fire crews were soon at the scene and helped the people jump out of a second-story window. It appears no one was seriously hurt in the fire.

Officers later caught up to Thompson at a hotel room in the area and arrested her. Investigators believe Thompson was upset that her ex-girlfriend, one of the people inside the apartment, had gotten a new girlfriend.

Thompson has been booked at San Joaquin County Jail and is facing arson and attempted homicide charges.
