Police: Sonoma State Police Chief Repeatedly Stabbed Stepson With Power Drill

HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say the police chief of Sonoma State University repeatedly stabbed his stepson in the chest with a power drill and fired a shot inside his home after an argument turned into a fight.

Alameda County sheriff's officials said Tuesday the fight ended with Nathan Johnson, the police chief at Sonoma State University, being treated for a cut on his head and his 20-year-old stepson being taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and an apparent punctured lung. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson tells the San Francisco Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1spBRpc) investigators were still trying to figure out what led to the fight Monday night.

Nelson says Johnson told investigators he fired his personal gun into the wall as a warning shot during the altercation.

He says no arrests have been made in the case, which was first called in by Johnson.
