Police Release Identity Of Girl, 13, Found Dead In Rocklin Home

ROCKLIN (CBS13) - Authorities have identified the teen girl suspected to have been killed by a teen boy in Rocklin.

The Rocklin Police Department says 13-year-old Ashley Wood was the girl found dead at a home along Monument Springs Drive on Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Wood suffered blunt-force trauma, but will not comment on what type of weapon was used.

Police say the suspect in Wood's death, her 14-year-old brother, ran away from the scene. He was eventually taken into custody in a field about a mile away.

The identity of the boy will not be released, police say, due to his age.

Rocklin police and the Department of Justice are jointly investigating the case.

"Yesterday was a very dark day for our Rocklin community," said Rocklin Chief of Police Ron Lawrence in a release. "On behalf of the Rocklin Police Department, I send our heartfelt condolences to the victim's family. Words cannot adequately express our deep sorrow for all involved."

The 14-year-old suspect has been taken to the Placer County Probation Juvenile Detention Facility in Auburn.
