The incident happened a little after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Stockton Police say employees at a business along the 2100 block of West March Lane reported that a man armed with two machetes had entered and chased them into a back room.

Employees were holding the door shut as the man tried to force his way in.

Officers soon got to the scene and spotted the man, identified as 37-year-old Jeffery Gandy, getting away through a window. Gandy then jumped a fence and into an apartment complex at 4777 Grouse Run Drive.

When officers caught up to him, Gandy was said to have been hacking on the fence of an apartment's patio area with a hatchet.

Gandy dropped his weapons when police ordered him to and he was taken into custody. He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing and being under the influence of drugs.
