Police: Man Used Fishing Hook To Steal Expired Medication

CARPINTERIA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Barbara County sheriff's officials say a suspect is accused of using a fishing hook to steal items from a public drop box for expired medications.

Spokeswoman Kelly Hoover says a sheriff's sergeant spotted the 46-year-old man early Saturday removing syringes, pills and other controlled substances from the box in Carpinteria.

Hoover says the man was using a hook at the end of a cord to fish the items out.

Christian Kulbe of Santa Barbara was arrested and could face charges including possession of stolen property, petty theft, possession of burglary tools, prowling and possession of controlled substances.

It wasn't known if Kulbe has an attorney.
