Police Investigate Shooting Near East Sacramento Motel 6

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – It was an intense and chaotic scene for a reverend who tried to break up a shooting in East Sacramento early Friday morning.

People were listening to music at a nightclub on the corner near N and 30th Streets when a fight broke out somewhere on the sidewalk across the street near from the Motel 6.

Somebody in the small group then brought out a gun and opened fire multiple times.

While that group scattered all in different directions, Sacramento Police were called to the scene and they found the evidence of the shooting – shell casings everywhere.

Someone later showed up to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to their leg. That person reported non-life threatening injuries and was related to the shooting in East Sacramento, according to police.

A reverend who happened to be at the scene said he tried to break up the shooting.

"He was a little tipsy. Enough for me to hold him if a second, try to pray again and he reached over my shoulder and shot once," said Rev. Paul Bryant, Sr. "And then I'm still holding man [saying] 'Stop, stop, what are you doing?' And the guy just started shooting from behind me."

Police are not releasing a description of the shooter.

The reverend says the shooter go the in a car and drove away toward the freeway.
