Police Identify 2 People Killed In Apparent Sacramento Murder-Suicide

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Authorities have released the names and ages of the two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide in south Sacramento on Friday.

John Barrett, 72, and Janis Barrett, 57, of Sacramento were killed when John reportedly shot Janis then shot himself in Sacramento's Vineyard neighborhood.

A cable company worker told authorities he was in the area of Vineyard Road and Crystal Creek Drive at around 1 p.m. Friday when he saw a man and woman talking on a nearby trail. A few minutes later, the man heard gunshots and saw John shoot himself. Janis' body was lying nearby on the ground, said Sgt. Ramos, a sheriff's department spokesperson.

The man said the two weren't fighting verbally or physically prior to the shootings.
