Police: Drug Deal Gone Wrong Preceded Shooting In Elk Grove

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Two young men and a young woman have been arrested after a shooting that left a man in critical condition.

The incident happened a little before 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Elk Grove Police Department. Officers were called to Criollo Court and Haflinger Way and found 19-year-old Alec Fjeldstad lying on the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police that the suspects had just gotten away from the scene, so a perimeter was established and a CHP helicopter was called in.

Police soon found a red Ford Mustang linked to the suspects parked along the 5000 block of Fox Trotter Way and detained three men in the area. Further, investigators found that the shooting looked to have stemmed from a drug deal Fjeldstad was carrying out with 19-year-old Elk Grove resident Tiffany Lai.

Police say Lai and two others – 20-year-old Elijah Graham and 19-year-old Avalon Clark – conspired to try and rob Fjeldstad at the meet-up.

At the eventual crime scene, police say Graham and Clark walked up to the car Fjeldstad was in and pulled out handguns. Fjeldstad looks to have been shot during a struggle between him and the two suspects.

Police found that Graham and Clark were among the men detained on Fox Trotter Way. They were soon arrested on attempted murder and attempted robbery charges. Two handguns were later found at an Elk Grove, police say.

Lai was also arrested and booked on attempted murder and attempted robbery charges.

Fjeldstad is recovering at a local hospital. His injuries are considered serious to critical.
