Police: Central California Man Shoots Pregnant Wife, Calls Mother

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Police say they've arrested a 32-year-old man who shot his pregnant wife and holed up in the couple's home for four hours.

KFSN-TV in Fresno reported Wednesday the 34-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant survived the ordeal and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Authorities say a woman on Tuesday contacted police, saying her son called to tell her that he shot his wife in the back.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says the couple's three young children were able to leave the home safely.

He says officers talked with the man identified as Manual Servin, who sounded like he was high on methamphetamine; Servin told them he had high-powered weapons.

It was not immediately known if Servin has an attorney.

Dyer says officers used a flash-bang grenade to enter the home and arrest the man.
