Police: Burglary Suspect Tried To Choke K9 Officer

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Police say that a man who was taken down by a police K9 officer tried to choke and stab the dog.

The incident happened Sunday a little after 7 a.m. at a business along the 1400 block of Navy Drive. Officers showed up to the scene after getting an alarm went off and witnesses reported seeing people making their way inside, according to a release from the Stockton Police Department.

At the scene, officers saw that a window of the business had been broken. Officers and police K9 AJ made their around the building and soon encountered one suspect – 56-year-old Jesus Sanchez.

Police deployed AJ and he took down Sanchez. However, police say that Sanchez tried to choke AJ during the struggle – and even picked up a tool as if to try and stab the dog.

Sanchez was quickly taken into the custody by officers after AJ took him down, police say. He had to be taken to the hospital before treatment of dog bite wounds before he was booked at San Joaquin County Jail.

Sanchez now faces burglary and possession of burglary tools charges.
