Police: Burglar With Sombrero Raiding Unlocked Cars In Folsom

FOLSOM (CBS13) — Folsom Police are looking for a burglary suspect with a sombrero they say is targeting residents' vehicles.

Surveillance video shows the suspect opening up an unlocked car door and grabbing what was inside. Investigators say the sombrero helped haul away the illicitly gained goods.

People in the quiet Folsom neighborhood of Steeplechase Drive say they don't feel safe anymore.

"I don't want them to come and break into my house you know," said Ramon Canchola.

The neighbor who posted photos of the suspect on Facebook says the alleged burglar also has a buddy working with him on the other side of the street.

Neighbors have never seen him before.

Sgt. Andrew Bates say the suspect could easily return, especially if neighbors are careless and continue to leave car and garage doors unlocked, or valuables in plain view.

"What we're asking citizens to do to help protect themselves and help keep thieves out of Folsom is to make sure they have nothing in their cars that's attractive to thieves," he said.

Police haven't identified or arrested the suspect, but they're asking anyone with information on the sombrero bandit to contact them immediately.
