Police: Fetus Found In Dumpster In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Police say that the body of a human fetus was found in a dumpster Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Occidental Avenue a little before 4:30 p.m. on a report of a baby in a dumpster, Stockton Police say. At the scene, the body of what appears to be a human fetus was found in an alleyway dumpster.

Medics later confirmed that the baby was dead.

Christina Chavez is a mother and 17 weeks pregnant with her fourth child. So, when she found out there was a dead baby inside a dumpster at her apartment complex, she was in disbelief.

"Treating the baby like it's just trash, it's just devastating," Chavez said.

Chavez says she noticed her neighbor crying. After asking her what was wrong, she learned that a man looking for recyclables found the dead fetus.

"And we looked inside and we did see a dead newborn baby," Chavez said.

Investigators and the coroner's office were still on the scene hours later.

"There's mothers that can't even get pregnant, having a hard time, and then you find this," Chavez said.

Detectives with the Child Abuse/Sexual Assault division of the Stockton Police Department are helping with the investigation.
