Police Arrest Teen Suspected Of Shooting And Killing Man In Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - Police have arrested a man accused of carrying out our region's first homicide of the year.

Officers went to the 3200 block of Nosler Court on Friday, just before 2 a.m. after they received the report of a shooting. They arrived at the home and found 23-year-old Darien McLaurin lying on the ground outside.

Medics took McLaurin to the hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

Following their investigation, officers arrested 19-year-old Marcus Gammage on Saturday for McLaurin's death.

In a statement issued Sunday, police say the shooting happened while a party at the home was winding down and a fight broke out between Gammage and McLaurin.

Gammage has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charge of murder and is ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 5.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives ask anyone with information relating to this incident to contact the Sheriff's Department at (916) 874-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.
