Freeway Shooting Shuts Down NB Lanes Of Capital City Freeway Near El Camino Avenue

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — All northbound lanes of Capital City Freeway were closed north of El Camino Avenue due to a freeway shooting investigation Monday night.

A CHP spokesperson said officers found a vehicle with bullet holes off the freeway with the doors open, lights on. Officers say the vehicle was abandoned and they have not found a victim.

CHP said officers shut down the freeway after finding shell casings on the road. The road was closed until 11:30 p.m.

Officers say the priority is finding out if anyone was hurt in this shooting and where those shots came from.

Traffic was being diverted to the El Camino exit. Caltrans recommends that drivers take an alternate route.

Officers say there is still a lot to piece together about the shooting including finding any witnesses that may have more information about the incident. There are a few businesses across the street from where the car was abandoned. Investigators will be checking to see if they have surveillance cameras.
