Planning Commission Approves Sacramento Kings Arena Plan

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Sacramento City Planning Commission approved a plan for a new downtown arena for the Sacramento Kings.

After eight public hearings, the commission passed the baton to the Sacramento City Council to approve the arena in a meeting that lasted more than four hours.

The commission wanted some design changes made to the arena, but not that should affect the seating capacity or size of the arena. It wants the exterior slimmed to look less bulky and some refinement of the glass facade.

The arena now moves to the Sacramento City Council where it will be voted on at a May 13 meeting. If it is approved, construction will start shortly thereafter with an opening date slated for Oct. 7, 2016.
