Planned 'Raftopia' Event Prompts Alcohol Ban On American River

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Officials have issued an alcohol ban along part of the American River in anticipation of another "Raftopia" event.

The event - which is scheduled for Saturday - did not get a permit, according to the Sacramento County Regional Parks. Noting their concern over Raftopia's apparently strong focus on drinking alcohol, officials handed down the ban over public safety concerns.

At least 500 people say they will be attending Saturday's Raftopia event, according to the event's Facebook page.

In previous years, the notorious event was known as Rafting Gone Wild. Several people were arrested at an event in June.

The alcohol ban is in effect from the Hazel to Watt Avenues.
