Placer High Students Had To Use Trash Can As Restroom During October Lockdown

AUBURN (CBS13) — Placer High School wants to bring emergency lockdown survival kits to its classrooms after last month's manhunt for two suspects facing charges of murdering two deputies.

School officials say students weren't allowed to leave the classroom for five hours on Oct. 24 while the search was on for the two suspects.

"People used trash cans as bathrooms and stuff so it was pretty dire," said Placer High Student Miranda Fedoronczuk.

"When we did have the lockdown we were not prepared," said student Cassidy Noder.

Students weren't frustrated with the security; it was being trapped for hours without access to food, water or bathroom breaks.

Math teacher Eric Rodarte had the teens take care of business in a trash can through his classroom's trap door.

Days after the manhunt, school administrators went into prevention mode and found an online vendor selling classroom survival kits with foot and water for 30 students, and pail that doubles as a portable toilet.

They only have two, but say they need 68 more, and at $70 each, there's no budget for it.
