Pipe Bomb Explodes in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - A pipe bomb has exploded in a Southern California alley, causing minor damage and no injuries.

Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt says a report of a possible explosion sent officers to the 600-block of north Anaheim Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.

They found a pipe bomb blast had caused minor damage to the concrete wall of a closed business and a utility pole.

Wyatt says an end-cap of the device flew 45 feet and put a hole in a wooden fence.

Nearby homes were voluntarily evacuated for about an hour until a bomb squad determined there were no other devices.

Two other pipe bombs exploded in Anaheim in November and December. Wyatt says it's unclear whether this one is related but notes there was an arrest in the previous explosions.
