PETA Pushes For Roadside Memorial For Chickens Killed In Crash

TURLOCK (CBS13) - A particular stretch of highway in Turlock has claimed the lives of numerous chickens - and PETA wants to make sure the animals are remembered.

Last Friday, a truck carrying chickens rolled over on Highway 99 near Lander Avenue. Many chickens were killed in the crash. Back in May, another truck crashed and many chickens were killed. The truck driver also died in the crash.

PETA says that, on behalf of a Turlock resident, they've now sent a letter to the Stanislaus County Department of Public Works that asks for a roadside memorial to be erected in the area.

The memorial, which would be about 5-feet tall, would have the words "In Memory of the Chickens Who Suffered and Died at This Spot, August 2016. Try Vegan." A rendering of how the memorial might look has been released.

PETA hopes the memorial will remind drivers to be safe and make people think twice about their food choices.
