Man dies after being shot outside Sacramento-area liquor store

Deadly shooting investigation underway on Hillsdale Boulevard in Sacramento County

SACRAMENTO COUNTY - An investigation is underway after two people were shot and one died in Sacramento County Wednesday night, authorities said. 

Deputies responded to Ernie's Liquor & Wine on the 5700 block of Hillsdale Boulevard in the Foothill Farms area where they said they found one person with a gunshot wound to the chest, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.

Based on information gathered by the ShotSpotter system, 12 shots were fired at the victim, who has only been described as a man. He was rushed via ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Later, a second victim who was shot in the leg drove themselves to the hospital, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson. 

The identity of the person who died is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.  

Detectives and crime scene investigators pieced together evidence at the scene and spoke to witnesses. They eventually determined that the two victims were the ones who were shooting at eachother.
