CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – Officers are investigating an accident that killed a pedestrian late Thursday night.

The scene was on Auburn Boulevard near Whyte Avenue. Citrus Heights police say the accident happened just after 11p.m.

It appears as if the person, only identified as a man at this time, was already down in the street - and not in a marked crosswalk - before he was hit the car. Police aren't sure why.

The driver who hit the man stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators.

Lanes of Auburn Boulevard were closed for most of the early morning hours.
