Parents Arrested After Natomas High Student Brandishes Gun During Class

NATOMAS (CBS13) — The parents of a Natomas High School student who brought a loaded handgun to school were arrested on Tuesday.

Andrew Hicks, 38, and Maria Hicks, 38, were arrested on child endangerment and weapons charges.

The unidentified 15-year-old student reportedly took out a 9mm handgun from his backpack and brandished it in a classroom minutes after school started on Tuesday morning. Students were able to safely get out while the teacher deescalated and defused the situation.

Police praised the actions of the teacher and principal at the school, saying they stopped a dangerous situation from becoming much worse.

The 15-year-old student was booked into juvenile hall on false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a loaded firearm on a school campus.

Officers searched the students' home during a welfare check and found several other firearms at the home.
