Paramedic: Elderly Davis Couple's Organs Were Removed After Stabbing
DAVIS (CBS13) — Chilling new statements rattled a Yolo County courtroom Wednesday in the trial against a teen accused of murdering an elderly couple.
Daniel Marsh sat quietly and stared at papers in front of him as the jury heard a second day of testimony in the gruesome killings of Claudia Maupin and her husband, Chip Northup. Last April they were found stabbed to death in bed in their Davis home.
Police say Marsh, who was 15 at the time, confessed to breaking into their home and killing them. They say he stated he felt "pure happiness" when he stabbed them both 60 times.
Sobbing from the witness stand, Delonda Jones, the couple's housekeeper of 12 years says she didn't know about the murders until she saw it on television and cried out, "That's my clients! That's my clients!"
The most chilling testimony of the day came from Bryan Esparza, the paramedic who pronounced them dead. He told the jury he knew the couple was dead after a horrific discovery:
"There was removal of the organs from the bodies," he said.
The teen showed no emotion during Wednesday's proceedings.
Police say Marsh confessed he knew what he was doing was wrong, but still did it anyway. It was revealed on Tuesday that he told investigators. "It felt right," "It felt amazing," and, "It felt great."
Marsh's attorney has never denied his client murdered the couple, instead blaming the teen's actions on his parents' divorce and antidepressants.
More testimony is scheduled for Thursday.
