Oregon Mother Who Allegedly Threw Autistic Son, 6, Off Bridge Appears In Court

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - A woman who called 911 to report she had thrown her 6-year-old autistic son off a bridge to his death on the Oregon Coast has made her first court appearance.

Lincoln County Circuit Court in Newport said Tuesday that 34-year-old Jillian McCabe entered no pleas to charges of aggravated murder, murder, and manslaughter. The case has yet to go to a grand jury.

Police arrested McCabe Monday evening at the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport.

Several months ago she had written an Internet appeal for money to help care for her autistic son and disabled husband, who could no longer support their family.

Court-appointed defense attorneys Christopher Clayhold and Deborah Burdzick did not immediately return calls for comment.
