Ore. Man Finds Lost Envelope Containing $40,000, Returns It To Owner

An Oregon man is being hailed for his integrity after he found an envelope containing thousands of dollars and returned it to its owner.

The owner of the money, who wanted to remain anonymous, dropped the envelope containing $2,000 in cash and a $38,000 cashier's check in the parking lot of a Safeway store in Clackamas, said KATU reported. She said the money was being used as a down payment on her new home.

"I was so stunned and so stressed, I swear I was going to have a heart attack or a stroke," she said.

Fortunately for her, 23-year-old Brian DiCarlo reportedly found the envelope on the wet ground and turned it over to police.

"I never really had the 'I could keep this' thought," he told the station. "I think I do believe that at the time I was the exact person who needed to be there at that exact time to pick it up, because maybe someone else wouldn't have done the same thing that I did."

The woman gave DiCarlo $300 as a reward.
