Olivehurst Truck Driver Gets Stuck Under Oregon Trestle
SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Marion County sheriff's officer says a tractor-trailer rig spent nearly 12 hours wedged under a railroad trestle near Salem, Ore. The driver told authorities he relied on his GPS system on his drive from California and did not see signs warning about the low bridge clearance.
Sgt. Chris Baldridge says the driver made things worse when he tried to keep driving after getting stuck, causing more damage to his trailer and possibly to the trestle.
The truck got stuck at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Baldridge said the road reopened about 6:30 p.m.
The sheriff's office identified the driver as 38-year-old James Hall of Olivehurst, Calif. He reportedly told deputies he was using a noncommercial GPS. He was cited for violating the posted truck route.
Baldridge says the county public works department has placed warning signs for low bridges and worked with commercial GPS companies to alert truck drivers.
