Northern California Man Arrested 12 Times In 2014

ANDERSON, Calif. (AP) - Police in a Northern California town say the same local transient has been arrested a dozen times this year.

Anderson police say the most recent arrest of 56-year-old David Alan Dewalt came Sunday when he tried to cross a highway so intoxicated that he was nearly hit by a car that ran into his dog instead.

Sgt. Bryan Van Dyke tells the Redding Record-Searchlight that an officer saw Dewalt start to cross the street against a red light before dawn and realized an oncoming car couldn't see him. The officer honked and Dewalt stopped, but the dog didn't.

The dog, named Bella, is expected to survive.

Police say Dewalt has been arrested 11 previous times in 2014.

Anderson is a Shasta County city of about 10,000 people.
