2 people hurt in plane crash into North Sacramento field
Two people were critically hurt after a plane crashed into a North Sacramento field early Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.
The scene is near Claire Avenue and Rio Linda Boulevard.
Sacramento Fire confirmed that they responded to a plane crash just around 12:30 p.m. and that two men were in critical condition. One of the victims had to be extricated from the plane, firefighters say.
Sacramento Fire officials told CBS Sacramento one of the victims had died, but they have since clarified that the person was revived.
The plane involved appears to be a smaller, single-engine craft. Exactly what led up to the crash is under investigation.
Captain Justin Sylvia with Sacramento Fire said the wet weather in the region would make it difficult for crews to remove the plane from the field.
"It's very wet out there, so getting this plane out is going to be very challenging," Sylvia said. "There's going to have to probably be a heavy wrecker that comes out to maybe pull it out of that field, but there's no way that any type of tow vehicle can drive out there, just because it's so soft."
