Man, 56, Shot And Killed By Deputies In North Highlands

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) - Authorities are investigating after a deputy-involved shooting in North Highlands late Thursday morning that left a suspect dead.

The scene is along President Avenue.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says they responded to the area after a neighbor reported a man in the area acting erratically. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect carrying what they described as a sharp weapon.

Deputies say the suspect ran inside a nearby home and came back out with a pitchfork, allegedly threatening the officers.

One of the deputies then shot the suspect, hitting him in the chest.

The suspect, described as a 56-year-old man, was later pronounced dead.

One man at the scene we spoke to says the suspect was his neighbor and has heard him yelling and acting combative in the past.

None of the deputies involved in the shooting were injured. The area between Senate and President Avenues will remain closed for most of the day as detectives investigate the shooting.
