NORAD Jets Taking Part In Training Exercises Over Central Valley

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Residents in the Central Valley may see low-flying military jets overhead on Thursday.

The jets are taking part in North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) training exercises, according to a statement from NORAD. The aircraft will be flying between Bishop and Sacramento between 9-11 a.m., practicing interception and identification procedures.

NORAD says the exercises test responses, systems and equipment. In addition to military jets, the flights may involve contracted aircraft as well.

Flights of this nature have been flown throughout Canada and the U.S. since the beginning of Operation Noble Eagle, the command's response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
