New iOS Update Blocks Malware That Can Read Texts, Emails, Activate Camera

iPhone users, update your version of iOS right now, says CNET.

Apple recently released what it's calling an "important security update" after users received active malware threats that can not only read texts and email but record calls, track your location and turn on your camera and microphone, CNET's Sarah Jacobsson Purewal reported Thursday.

Dubbed Trident by mobile security firm Lookout, the malware uses three vulnerabilities to break through Apple's platform. Trident was developed by Israel-based company NSO for cyber war, according to Toronto's Citizen Lab, according to CNET.

The issue was brought to Citizen Lab's attention when links containing the malware were sent to a human rights defender in UAE. He reportedly forwarded the emails to Citizen Lookout. They confirmed the threat and notified Apple, who then released a fix.
