CBS News Sacramento

A strong storm system bore down on the Sacramento region Sunday, where wind gusts reached 65 mph at times. Powerful winds knocked down trees, fences, and power lines.

As a result of the wind, hundreds of thousands of people lost power in the Sacramento area. At about 7:15 p.m., Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) reported via its app that more than 204,000 customers were without power.

Since then, the number of affected customers has decreased to 29,282, over 851 outages as of about 11:10 a.m. Monday.

Also, as of Monday morning, SMUD said it had repaired 60 downed lines and had 80 crews assessing damage and restoring power.

SMUD urges people who encounter a downed power line to stay clear and immediately dial 1-888-456-SMUD (7683) or 911.
