Driver arrested for DUI, hit-and-run in Highway 50 crash in the Sierra
EL DORADO COUNTY - One person is in the hospital and another is behind bars following a crash on Highway 50 in the Sierra late Thursday morning, the CHP said.
Officers received reports of a head-on crash at about 10:30 a.m. on Highway 50 about 1.5 miles east of Kyburz. Caltrans reported that the highway was closed and asked drivers to seek an alternative route.
The CHP later learned there were two crashes on westbound Highway 50.
Officers said the driver of a Toyota Corolla crashed into a red Dodge Ram before driving off and crashing head-on into a Subaru Forester about three miles down the road.
The driver of the Forester was life-flighted to a hospital where they are expected to be OK.
The driver of the Corolla then took off running but was found nearby. The CHP said the driver, 26-year-old Jennie Gomez of Sacramento, was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run.
Highway 50 fully reopened before 1 p.m.
Kyburz is about 78 miles east of Sacramento and about 28 miles west of South Lake Tahoe.
